Biology Teaching and Learning

"The single most important factor influencing learning is what the learner already knows. Ascertain this and teach accordingly."  -David Ausubel

Welcome to the BioEducation Lab at The University of Alabama. Dr. Kaleb Heinrich and his colleagues are involved in a wide range of projects focusing on biology teaching and learning. Please browse our website to learn more about us.

DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, AND RESPECT ARE CORE VALUES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

The concept of race cannot be defined by biology – racial categories and how to distinguish a person’s race are determined by personal opinion. Nevertheless, racism negatively effects the health and biology of people of color. Further, ignoring race does not make racism go away. It is through education and understanding biology that we can begin to breakdown misconceptions about race. (Integrating Concepts in Biology by Campbell et al., 2020)
